All the major museums in the world have works of art that produce a special magnetic effect on the general public, drawing crowds who gather around them... you simply can't look away. At the Prado, Velázquez's Las Meninas is one of those magnet-works, perhaps the most powerful one: documentary-like, modern for its time, and an influence and model for later masters — universal and timeless.
