Cultural Memories: The Art of Memory

The Souvenir as value

The term souvenir is generally associated to topical concepts with very diverse implications:

From the emotional (evoking trips, personal gifts, attachment to a determined culture, country or region) to the aesthetic (popular taste, the bane, the decorative, etc)…

The tradition of taking a souvenir from places which the tourist, or visitor has traveled to as an ornamental piece (aside from images and home videos) is a practice which definitely has allowed to fulfill that person’s status as a traveler: the object is a permanent and physical memory of the trip; yet it need not be capricious or inconsequential.

Why was Cultural Memories conceived?

CULTURAL MEMORIES is a project which was conceived as a comercial proposal with aesthetic intentions and with a concept which differentiates it from the rest within its sector. For CULTURAL MEMORIES, the fact that one can appreciate the idea of a souvenir as an attractive, contemporary article, is a challenge we chose to approach from many different angles. Making our work a product which transcends the superficial interpretation of the term souvenir, and redefining its habitual perception, verging upon Art and Design, and acquiring thus, a cultural dimension all on its own.

Best Souvenir from the Basque Country?

  • We make use of the evocative and elegant nature of the silhouette as a formal expression.
  • We nourish ourselves from the stories and we tell them: the figures represent the depth of our rich Cultural stream.
  • The manufacturing process is of vocational artistry, as our pieces are carefully crafted from their conceptual approach, through their artistic crafting and into their final commercial presentation.
  • Projects are crafted through all of their phases by local agents: made in Euskal Herria
